Industrial Ports
The banks of the River Tyne were once humming with industry. Ships came up the river to load coal at Dunston. Now the abandoned skeleton of the coal staithes is a memorial to the river’s industrial past.
Most of the giant cranes have been dismantled in recent years but there are memories and remnants of the past adjacent to continuing industry in the docks of Wallsend and North Shields.

The busy port of Malaga has provided similar inspiration in the strong geometric structures of cranes and silos.
